Today the students at Sandy Hook Elementary return to school. A number of friends on Facebook  and Twitter had commented on the return and it had been on my mind. What were the parents thinking as they dropped their children off? Were the children afraid? Then a friend posted this picture on Facebook and I could not type fast enough to see if I could donate to this cause.

The Lutheran Church Charities K9 Comfort Dogs (and their human buddies) left Illinois on New Year’s Day to drive to Connecticut to be there today when school started. As you can see, they came with company, including teddy bears, which is such a smart idea since some kids may be scared of dogs, even when they are as beautiful, loving, and friendly as the pup pictured here.

LCCk9 Comfort takes dogs anywhere people may benefit from having a cold nose, four paws, a wagging tail and a warm heart around, including schools, nursing homes, hospitals, and disaster response situations. Don’t you feel your blood pressure going down just looking at that photo?

The organization defines a dog as “a friend who brings a calming influence, allowing people to open up their hearts and receive help for what is affecting them.”  Paws up for that!
