07 April 2013

I’m in Las Vegas covering the Academy of Country Music Awards. There are about 15 things going on at once, so this one is going to be short.

Just as The Recording Academy (the folks who present the Grammys) has its charitable arm, so do the ACMs. In its rather broad mission statement, Lifting Lives is dedicated to “improving lives through the power of music.” That allows them lots of leeway, but for much of their giving, they partner with other non-profits, including Make-A-Wish. Often a performer appears on the ACMs in a Lifting Lives segment with proceeds going to a charity they endorse. Tonight it’s Jewel for ChildHungerEndsHere.com. In they past, they pacted with Carrie Underwood to provide relieve to flood victims after the Nashville flood and with Trace Adkins for Wounded Warriors, whom I gave to a few days ago.
